City Beach Residential College
_

Sited in the existing City Beach College site, CAPA worked closely with the architect (IPH) in developing an integrated landscape and building that responded to the existing site and brief.

The new administration and amenities building provides a landmark presence, encircling an existing ficus tree and forming an entrance ‘embrace’ . Informal pathways form a skirt to the podium of the building, using metal edging and compacted stone fines. In conjunction with our arborist, the existing Ficus trees was carefully pruned and protected during construction. Groundcover provides a living mulch to the tree and root areas.

To the north, an courtyard is defined by new limestone retaining walling and the building at lower level. Integrated seating elements and new Eucalyptus Victrix tree plantings will provide welcome shade and gathering space to the new terrace and lawn areas. The space also welcomes a Jon Tarry sculpture, which echoes the building’s  blue entrance colour motifs.

Plant selections featured coastal species endemic to the City Beach area, bush tucker selections and drifts of yellow flowered Acacia species plantings.

CAPA are continuing to work with the school and maintenance staff in providing feedback on landscape design intent and vision for the area.
